China Trip: Day 10: Xi'an International Studies University/Terracotta Warriors

Our morning started early in Xi'an with breakfast at the university cafeteria and a fabulous opening ceremony, welcoming our group in this partnership with the university. "Poems in Sync; Youth in Link" was the theme of our visit. It was awesome to watch my ASD colleague, Emily Fitzpatrick, honored as an educator and guide the group.

In the afternoon, we boarded the bus to visit the Terracotta warriors.

Can you imagine spending over 30 years preparing for your death?

Enter a worried Chinese emperor in 200BC.
More than 2,000 years ago, China’s first emperor spent over 30 years creating an entire underground army to protect him in the afterlife.
Standing face-to-face with the Terracotta Warriors today was surreal. Thousands of soldiers, each with unique features, silently guarding their emperor for centuries, only discovered in 1974 when a farmer was digging a well for water. It is estimated that there are nearly 8000 warriors in total but only a fraction have been excavated. The Chinese government has chosen not to excavate more so that future generations can see new warriors.
But I guess the real question is this: if you could leave behind one thing for people to discover 2000 years from now, what would it be?

I am LOVING this country, its culture, and the beautiful people who are living here!
