Back to School with Masks and Social Distancing: Covid 2020

I am incredibly proud of my kids heading back to the classroom in this Covid world with respect for rules, mask wearing, and social distancing.  As Austin said this summer, "Mom, I don't think I will ever take for granted going to school."

We took the obligatory 1st day of school pictures on the deck: Alyssa 6th grade, Austin 9th grade, Jaxson 11th grade, and Jody Year 27.  It hit me that in 7 years, I will be standing alone on the deck, holding my sign, waiting for Dave to come out and take my picture....hahaha!!!

I made breakfast, took Alyssa to school, had a crazy day at work, came home to crumbl cookies and a domino card from my ministering sisters and later, Meredith brought me a huge bouquet of flowers.

Dave forgot to put out the candybar posters for the kids, so Alyssa had to.  Hilarious! The kids loved the messages and the candy (of course).

Yes, this is going to be a great school year!

2020 Utah Soccer Cup Results: Champion Children!

The first week of August was filled with lots of work and teacher trainings for Jody and lots of soccer for the kids. It was the 2020 Utah Cup and we were super excited to be in competitive soccer again.

Alyssa's Celtic Run:  The girls played hard and had some amazing wins, taking them to the championship game.  It was a heartbreaker with a loss.  2nd place in the gold division.  We were proud of Alyssa and her work ethic while she played

Austin's La Roca Run:  The semi-final game was against a soccer charter school in Provo with boys who looked 2 years older than our 14 year olds.  The first half was brutal, with a score of 5-0 at the half. Austin's coach, Cesar, told the boys they weren't going to win the game but to focus on winning the half.  Their improved concentration resulted in a record-breaking 7 yellow cards and 1 red card from the opposing team. After the loss, we realized we would be playing this team again for the championship.

The next day, Austin's team played the same time as Alyssa's so Dave and I had to divide and conquer. Dave called me at the half and let me know Austin's team was up by 1 goal. They ended up going into double over time and then a PK shoot where....there was a 1st place victory for La Roca!

We are celebrating both of our children!  We are proud of them and all they are doing!

St. George Get-Away

We ended up having the nicest get-away to beautiful St. George for our family vacation this summer.  No, it wasn't exotic or super adventurous, but we enjoyed time together as a family.
Doug and Melissa ended up joining us the entire time there.  They are super fun and we love them dearly.  We learned that our families blend well on vacations too so that was fun to discover.
Highlights:
*Drove 2 cars to St. George because we didn't trust the Suburban
*Stopped in Cedar City for a walk around the temple and a family selfie.
*Las Palmas Resort---deliriously fun!
* Swimming all of the time
*Dinner at Pieology
*Dinner at Wingers
*Card Games
*Pickleball
*Late night talks
*Cooking in the condo

I love my family so much!
