Lindsay Family Construction Project 1: 7 days in

7 days in.  Here is how everything went down.
First, demo stretched from 2 days to 7.  Dave found some black underneath the tile which pointed to mold.  Because he likes to do things right, he spent the next 4 days laying awake at night, trying to figure out how to rip out the slightly-molded subflooring to replace it with the new flooring.  Yesterday, on day 7, he was able to finish the flooring and sewer.  Yay!

I spent time sanding, painting, and re-painting the cabinets with a gorgeous blue to match the beautiful blue tile we purchased. The cabinets are ready to go!  YAY!  Taylor spent 90 minutes doing a deep clean on the cabinets and they look new.  I am so proud of her attention to detail and hard work.  I have also spent hours researching mirrors, countertops, lighting, sinks, and faucets.  Must get these ordered asap!

We are super excited to see what this week brings!

Week 2 of the Coronavirus Social Distancing: Home School, Bathroom Remodel, and S'mores

There will be parent/teacher conferences this weekend....and the children are in trouble with their new teacher! The kids have been doing okay with their homeschooling. It bothers me they don't love reading.  I don't understand it. They also try to get out of doing things that I know are good for them.  Yes, yes, I know I could yell and ground them every day, all day, for everything I would love for them to do and do well.  But along the way, I realize I want a different relationship for them, so I really only focus on what I feel are the "essentials" in life to really focus on and let the rest go.

The bathroom remodel is going well except that Dave found some black on the flooring which he thinks is mold.

S'mores on the desk with the fire is simply perfection.  While I don't wish our world conditions due to the Coronavirus, there are some things I am learning about this time together:

1.  While this has been challenging, we have it good.  We have our health, we have food, we have all we need. It is a blessing I am not taking for granted and feel almost uneasy that we are not experiencing more pain.  It just reminds me I am expected to give more, to do more.
2. Having NO distractions (running around on limited time, sports, activities, friends, etc) is something I am embracing.  Although I am working hard at home with my job, parenting, bathroom, Dave's schooling, my last classes, the remodel, and so forth, we don't have the distractions we have been living with.  And I love it!
3.  There are some things I want to keep doing when this passes over: like walks when we want, time to talk with the kids, giving more time and attention to my husband, journaling, reading, going a bit more slow in life.

Happy Corona-Birthday, Austin!

Oh, my little heartbeat!  How the years have flown! These pictures remind me of joys we have experienced in the different phases of his life.

Today, our Austin turned 14 years old. Because of the Coronavirus, I asked if a few friends could come over and remain on our desk, 6 ft apart, to enjoy some cupcakes and ice cream (and because it was so cold, we added hot chocolate). We surprised him with a bean bag for his room and some lights.  Cheri came over and decorated the front door which was so nice too.

At the end of the day, Austin said, "Mom, this was one of my favorite birthdays."  Love you so much, son!  You are a light of passion and joy to our world!

Lindsay Family Construction Project 1: And Dave said, "We're going to learn how to tile a bathroom!"

As we started to realize we would be hunkering down in our home during the Coronavirus social distancing for a time, Dave realized he was going to go crazy just studying and getting his clinical hours in.  For months, he and the kids had been dreaming, researching materials, and planning what materials would look best when we remodel our home with the timeline of when he is out of school.

So, to my surprise, Dave announced last week, "Since the kids are home, we are going to learn how to do something.  We are going to learn how to tile a bathroom!"  I loved the idea.  Jaxson was brilliant in helping choose the colors and materials (the hardest part). We purchased from "Floor and Decor" in SLC and picked up the beautiful blue subway tiles and white porcelain tiles later that day.  I took the before pictures and then added the cutest construction workers you have ever seen!

Here we go!
