Caribbean Vacation Day 3: Puerto Rico!

On Day 3, we arrived in Puerto Rico. I fell in LOVE with the city immediately. Puerto Rico is charming with the feel of all the things Latin mixed with the the influence of America. I'm talking, I really loved the city!

Steve and Jen
It was March 23rd, both Steve and our little Austins' birthdays! We had to make a call home to wish our son a happy day.

Finishing up the phone calls home, we took a break in the shade
Jen, Steve, Meredith and Nate

We loved the colors of the buildings and the tropical feel of the island.

Visiting a small church on our way to the fortress.

Dave was intrigued with the narrow, cobblestone streets and colorful buildings. His inner-photographer really came to life here as he snapped hundreds of pictures.

Beautiful Meredith!

As we approached the fortress, Dave and I were fascinated by the cemetery near the ocean...

The dream team: Dave, Steve and Nate

One of my favorite memories of the day was lying on the grass and talking together.

Me and my sister wife, Jen! :)

We took a tour of El Morro. The surroundings were incredible.

Best-looking man on the island!

Strongest man in the fortress...

Meres and I loved these arches

Since it was Steve's birthday, we found this great restaurant in the city which boasts that it is where the pina colada was invented! Of course, we ordered some with our dinner and man, they tasted GREAT!

On our way to the ship, I was in awe of how beautiful it looked from land so I insisted on some pictures of our friends:

Back at the ship, we found this elephant waiting on our bed:

Later in the evening, we met in the Queen's Lounge for a Marriage game. The ship director, Eugene Young from Provo, was the host of a Newly-wed-type game show. They grabbed a couple who had been married for over 60 years, a couple who were honeymooning and then Eugene asked for a couple "in the middle; not newly weds but not 50 years or over." The next thing I knew, Jen Johnston was jumping up and down, hooting for the attention to go our direction. Eugene was all over it and selected the Johnstons as the 3rd couple.

The show was hilarious! Seriously, I haven't laughed that hard in years. Jen and Steve became instant celebrities on the cruise ship and were recognized everywhere. Like here at late-night snacking:

Before bed, we met for some snacking and to give the Johnstons their presents. We gave Steve a fanny pack stuffed with airplane goodies (as he is the ultimate tourist). For Jen, I designed a necklace with a runner which says, "Believe. Boston 26.2". She wants to qualify for Boston more than anything. Recently, Jen even created a blog about her training which I have loved to read.

Happy Birthday to the two youngest-looking 40 year olds we know!
