We flew out of SLC at 11:45pm on a red eye to JFK. When we arrived there, we still had 2 1/2 hours before our next flight. While I visited with Meredith and called my missionary mom in New Jersey (so close, yet so far away), Dave took a snooze on the airport floor while Nate caught up on his Emails.

At Ft. Lauderdale, we met up with the Johnstons and headed for our ship, Holland American's New Amsterdam.

The ship was beautiful. It was a mid-grade size ship with floors and floors of cabins. Dave and I opted for the inside cabin (cheapest, with the perk of total darkness to let me sleep better) while the Hults and Johnstons had cabins with a window.

We all slept for a few hours until the ship left. Dave and I missed the evacuation drill because we were "waking up" from our naps, but we sure loved watching the skyline of Florida while we sailed away.
On Sunday evening, our first evening, we unpacked our clothes and got our cabin looking comfy, ate a scrumptious dinner with a delightful couple from Holland and enjoyed some singing and dancing at an after-dinner show. It was the start to a great week!
