We awoke early in Montgomery for the drive to Auburn for the long-awaited football game! As we loaded our belongings in the rental car, Uncle Doug pulled out the magnets and flags to display on the car. All decked out in his new Auburn gear, Austin was tickled to help.
On our way back to Auburn, Uncle Doug drove me past the church that was built less than a year before we left for Idaho. It was exciting to see where Jeff was blessed and where we attended church when we lived in Auburn.
Auburn University was bustling with action....and we were there more than 3 hours before kick off! We walked around to see the tailgaters. I was taking pictures like crazy. We got ready for the famous "Tiger Walk" where the athletes that had been bussed to the stadium walked in between thousands of people giving them high 5s. From there, we went to Spirit Square where we started to hear band music playing from 4 different locations coming to each other. They all intersected at the square and played lots of songs for us to sing and clap for. As they walked away, Uncle Doug said, "Let's follow them to the stadium" so we were right behind the police officers as they marched to the stadium.
Since Uncle Doug is a donor to the college and has great tickets, we got in early to begin the feasting that was catered especially for donors. Austin was in heaven with all of the food and the stadium activities. A full hour before the game, the stadium was filling up. About 40 minutes before the game, the band and dancers entered with quite the attraction. Spirit, the eagle, was let loose to fly around the stadium and land in the middle of the field. I was just dying over all of the excitement, all of the apparel, all of the music, and simply the excitement!
The game was incredible. In fact, it wasn't looking good with Auburn down by 10 with 4 minutes left against Texas A&M. But they scored and then got the ball back. They ended up scoring again right before the end of the game and the crowd was going crazy!
After the win, we all headed to Toomer's Corner where all sorts of toilet paper was thrown over the oak trees in celebration of the win.
We headed to Atlanta, stopping for more Bruster's ice cream of course! We were exhausted and in bed by 8:30pm. What a glorious day!
