Happy 50th Birthday, Dave!

Dave's 50th Birthday----what a great day!

Unfortunately, he was sick coming off of our weekend in Vegas so I had to cancel the party Tuesday evening.  I got up and made breakfast for him and the kids since he wasn't feeling well.  We gave him the book I had created filled with messages of love and memories from family and friends. He loved it and said he would read it later in the evening with me.

When I sent out the invitations for Dave's birthday, I included little tattoos of Dave's face and asked people to either wear them to the party or for those who lived far away, to take pictures or videos to send to him showing off the new tattoo.  Uncle Doug sent the first one in the late afternoon.  As the evening went on, Dave's phone started to ding every 20-30 minutes with a new tattoo picture: Lynn VanRosendahl, Matt Haney, the Vanderwels, mom and dad Hatch, Ginger, Justin, etc.  We laughed and laughed until we were practically choking.  The book really touched Dave's heart. He loved it.  And I am so glad I went to the work to give him a "word gift" for his birthday.

Dave is an incredible man. His gifts and talents are endless. He has a way of touching peoples' lives in a soft, yet impactful way.  I love the life we have created together and give thanks to my Heavenly Father multiple times a day that our lives intersected when they did, for the commitments and covenants we made together, and for the beautiful family we have created.  Happy 50th, Dave!  You are a gift!

Family Time in Las Vegas for Alyssa's Soccer Games

5 states in 5 weeks
Week 1: Las Vegas, NV

Four EVENTFUL days in Las Vegas!

We decided to make our soccer trips mini family trips where each of the kids would feel like our lives don't revolve around sports.

Our drive to Las Vegas got really long as we hit Mesquite and saw there was a 1 hr 45 minute delay due to traffic in a construction zone. By the time we walked into the Westgate, we were tired and hungry.  Robert, one of the concierges at the Westgate, showed us to our room.  While we were talking, my cell rang.  Alyssa told me that Karina Pestana was on the line and it was an emergency.  They had just come back from Mexico and ended up having a stomach bug so Karina and the other kids stayed home and Kylie and her dad, David, drove to Vegas.  David started to get sick on the freeway and felt like passing out.  He got off the freeway and got the car stopped on a 3 lane road and passed out with car flying around them.  Kylie was able to move his leg to keep the car from rolling while she found the emergency lights and called 911.  We were only 12 minutes away so we left the boys with Robert and went to the scene.  Dave was able to talk to David in the ambulance.  We followed them to the hospital and waited for David to be released at 2am.  We got to bed at 3am. Gah!

Luckily, Alyssa had to play later that day.  We spent the morning/early afternoon learning about ownership in Westgate etc.  We were so tired we tried to nap just a little before the game.  Alyssa played super well during both games!

We ate at Maggianos, hung out in our suite at the Westgate, enjoyed a Magic show, and mostly made memories together.  What a great weekend!
